YESTERDAY THE 18TH OF NOVEMBER

Yesterday, the 18th of November was Samuel Swift Merritt's birthday. You all know him kind of. He is Mama's/Grandma's great-grandfather. He lived in Star Valley and is buried with his wife, Emma Naylor, in Bedford. You all know the Bedford is where I started my life.
Samuel Swift is the grandfather who left his home in Indiana to follow the Saints to Utah. I have a lengthy poem he composed about that experience. He is also the grandfather of reknown in our family for making tables dance at parties, before he left Indiana for the West.
He was known affectionately as Grandpap and had many children, all of whom were honest, hardworking Latter Day Saints.
Samuel Swift was born on 18th of November 1838 in Hendricks Co. Indiana. This was his 170th birthday.

There are more stories about this grandpa than most. Khrystine has addressed some of them in her post you can find by clicking here on New and Used Philosophy. Look for the post titled Family Ghosts. Scroll the Sidebar to the Archives list and click on the arrow pointing to September. There you'll find Family Ghosts and you can click on that.

OUR FAMILY MANTRA

"Sometimes he would get so swept up in ideas, you had to chase him around with a butterfly net."
