STAR VALLEY..THIS IS HOME

Since there are no good new pictures to post, I thought, Well, I'll post the antique ones. It will show you the landscape of Star Valley and you can see why my Sisters and I love it so much. These are rather random so I'll just tell you about them as they pop up.
This first one is my dad with Marie and me in front of our house. Daddy built this house himself, with help from Grandpa. When the house was sold it was moved to another farm to be used for storage. It wasn't so small. And it was solid brick.
The next picture is probably my older cousins, taken in Afton, but I don't know when. You can see how the town is nestled into the mountains. The photo on the side sneaked in on me. I thought I lost it. It's on Grandpa's farm, sort of his front yard. You can see how close the mountains are. That's my dad in the picture with my nephew, Glade, circa 1956.
This is my Greatgrandpa and his son in front of their newly finished house. Note that it is built in what is now duplex style. At the time it housed women on one side and the men on the opposite side. There were seperate entrances. That sounds practical if you think about it. Saves on noise, tracking in dirt, for example.

This is in the front yard of my home. It looks a little scruffy, but keep in mind that during wartime..WWll, there was nothing for luxuries and many things were rationed. A nicely trimmed lawn, etc. hadn't been invented there yet. The children are best friends and they are
Roger Preston, my little sister Marie, justmeRosalie ^.^), and Jeannie Wilks, who was killed as a child when she was thrown from a horse.
This is the school that was in Bedford where I lived. It had three classrooms and a kitchen/ cafeteria for the kids, also bathrooms, of course. My first grade class was held in that room at the back where you can see the windows. Our cousin Jack was the principal. I loved it there. I couldn't wait to go to school and read....not learn to read. I expected to just start reading because that's what you do, right? Well, pretty much that is what I did, skipped the learning part and just started doing it.
This is looking up the road in front of our house toward the mountains or to Grandpa's house, too. You might notice that the snow is rather deep. And the roads were never plowed....whoever heard of such a thing? It was snowy and cold all winter long, and I loved it.
This is at the cemetary in Afton. These are markers for two babies in the family. This is where my sister Shelly wanted to find rest. She requested cremation and Marie and I took her to Afton to be where she wanted to be. We sprinkled her ashes over the graves into the grass. It was a surreal experience for us. We didn't cry or pray and the wind wasn't blowing. But we had done our duty and Shelly was where she asked to be. She lived in Star Valley all her young life and it was home to her and a lot of our family. Marie wants to be buried in Bedford. I'm seriously thinking about that too.
This last picture shows the cemetary against the hills. It really is beautiful and the trees were so colorful but that just isn't showing up. I feel bad that things don't look better. The sky is blue. ^.^)
The pictures are better if you click on them to make them larger.

I don't see you as Anne Elliot! She is entirely too bland for you. You are far too glamourous...beautiful! Striking!
It would take Liz Taylor playing the part of Anne to convince me that you are Anne.!
