As I watch the boys in my world, I see parts of this journey playing out in their lives. Basically the Journey follows the path through life in a similar pattern for each person. It is based on Carl Jung archetypes, and further developed by Joseph Campbell There are seven major experiences that lead to the accomplishment of manhood. You can see them outlined on the video. They are:
1. The CALL to ADVENTURE Young men are challenged by something in their lives that requires them to stand up and change/defend a greater good.
2. An ENCOUNTER with the FEMININE It is important to have an encounter with the feminine as a complimentary part of himself. Women are able to help the hero get over certain thresholds to complete their wholeness.
3. TRAINING, overcoming fear, developing courage, "Do or Do Not" as Yoda of StarWars says.
"There is no TRY."
4. DESCENT into the ABYSS facing your fears, dragons, the chaos of life etc. Putting your own courage "out there" where the young man must actually conquer the opposition. Only by going into this chaos can he emerge seeing things in a better light.
5. DEATH... all Heroes must face death and accept it. It is part of the journey[life]. It must come. Parts and weaknesses of the hero must die or be purged [as with baptism].
6. THE RETURN going past death and returning triumphant...conquering weaknesses to become the Hero. [a Resurrection]
7. ATONEMENT the Hero revitalizes those around him by making them at one with nature or the universe. He reaches wholeness. He becomes Complete.
I find it interesting that most male lives follow these paths so closely. I believe almost all movies, of any quality, follow this outline. That is probably why we are so entranced with them. Books, plays, stories, songs. We all want to know about the hero's journey. If our boys could understand that they are on such a quest, life might have more importantance for them. For girls, it is another story.
I must give a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to KHRYSTINE for her help in composing this and helping me get it straight. It has been my BELOVED KHRYSTINE who shared so much of what she is studying that allows me to learn a little with her.

Thanks for sharing, this is a lot of meat to think about. The picture of you and your daughter is sweet. I only need to know one thing - do you always wear two pairs of glasses at a time? teehee, Diane
That is so funny. Yes, usually I do. The ones you see here fit very well over the prescription ones. And on top of my head, I always know where to find them. I guess that's not very lady-like, is it? These also broke, and I can no longer wear what I have that way.
