this photo was taken in the house we moved from....but I think it shows our ongoing problem. What to do....What to do??????
James and Karen are ready to come down and help go through all of our stuff in the storage unit and get it settled/moved or whatever. They have psyched me up. I am ready to ........start moving.......again??????? Well it's the same process. Go through everything and decide what to keep and what goes where, etc.....loud audible sigh.
I was taking all the dishes out of my china hutch a couple of days ago, and packing them up....for storage....to put away....also, so we can move the hutch over closer to the wall. You can't waste space in an apartment. After awhile, it occurs to me....showing you just how slow my brain works nowdays....it occurs to me that I'm packing again!!! And {por qua??} Two possible answers; so we can move that china hutch...good...and so the amber glassware that Grandma Dorothy gave us can be put in the hutch. Fine. HOWEVER....what is the point of packing up all those dishes??!!
I never get anywhere and nothing changes. I read a lot of books trying to find magic solutions. There is one book that treats this housekeeping/hoarding/cluttering with a clinical approach. It is [MAKING PEACE WITH THE THINGS IN YOUR LIFE by Cindy Glovinsky, M.S.W, A.C.S.W.] Here is a quote from that book: page 222 "If you're a person with an extremely cluttered dwelling who's determined to change your lifestyle, you might think that you must first declutter your house, then build some new (Thing) habits that will enable you to keep your home clutter free. Wrong. As long as you approach the problem this way, you're probably destined to stay trapped in clutter forever." She goes on to explain how to change your habits and ways of thinking first. Become a neat person, thinking like a tidy person, acting as if you are a domestic goddess....
shaking off the clutter mantle. Act as if... and you will become. James pointed out to me the other day that we should just haul the clutter up to the storage unit and get it out of our way. We can work on it after our living space is set straight. He's right. I had it backwards. But I did wake up with a 'duh' moment this morning. All I have to do is...~~~~..........you will likely be hearing about this and soon I hope. One reason I blog is to not lose my thoughts. Putting them out here prevents them from just floating away. The book reference is not a review, but it is something I want to keep in mind. And I think it has the answer for those of us who are just not domestically gifted. { Oh how I want to be.} For most of you it looks so easy. Me.....I just missed that boat completely. Thanks for listening/reading. I am going to go out and move some stuff out of my storage closet and get it ready to take to the D I, because, I just don't keep clutter ^.^). Perhaps my head will clear a little.

Rosalie, you are not alone. I am fighting that battle too. It's truly challenging. I don't know what the answer is, but persistence pays. So we will just keep at it until we conquer!
Someone wise once told me to act as if... fake it 'til you make it... act as if and you will become...
Oh yeah, it was my wonderful mother! Good luck with it all! I wish I could do more to help! And James is one smart kid- you should listen to him more often :)

In my little house on the prairie space inside my house is very precious!(Outside is a different story...I have an acre of sagebrush to try to fill up with something worth looking at!)But, back to the subject of discussion,I have to really love something to let is occupy space in my home. It is truly an never-ending battle, but every little effort helps!
Let me know if you need Shae or anyone to help too... we're packing as well... but you're welcome to who ever you need.
