I love it when you can just watch a movie and enjoy it without that nagging little fear of being offended at any given moment. We've just watched [SECONDHAND LIONS]. We enjoyed every minute of it. Not often do I watch something and chuckle and laugh throughout the entire show, but this movie is a gem. There is plenty of heartwarming humor all the way through. I love this movie.
It stars Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, and Haley Joel Osment, takes place on an old farm somewhere in Texas and features special appearances by an African lion and a charming big little pig who thinks he's a dog.
Walter [Haley Joel Osment] is left with his uncles when his not always honest mother goes off to school. Supposedly the uncles have a huge amount of money stashed away and are suspect robbers. Walter has been left there to find out where the money is so his mother can come back and take it later. The story takes a turn when one of the uncles, Michael Caine sporting a charming Southern accent, tells the young boy stories about Duvall's history that involves sheiks, kidnapped princesses, and amazing swordfights.
The uncles are sweet old men, just living their lives as retired gardners, and ordering quirky things through the mail, such as a retired lion, and shooting traveling salesmen who drive down the road to the house with their wares. Walter learns a lot about life and living, and what to put his heart and beliefs in.
It's a delightful story. And you can watch it and not once get nervous about language or violence or all that junk that ruins stories so often. I think you will love it if you see it. It's a lot of fun. And I wouldn't blog it if it wasn't true. : >

Secondhand Lions is a great movie! I wish movie studios would make more clean family films like it.
